    Using these terms with patients

    • Pierna is the leg overall and "la pantorrilla" the calf — worth being exact when assessing a possible DVT.
    • For diabetic foot checks, "¿Siente esto?" during monofilament testing is all the Spanish you need, repeated per site.
    • Swelling is "hinchazón"; ask "¿Se le hinchan los pies por la tarde?" to capture the diurnal pattern.
