    Using these terms with patients

    • Chronic-disease visits go better when you ask about control before numbers: "¿Cómo se siente con la medicina?" often reveals adherence and side effects faster than "¿Está tomando sus pastillas?"
    • Parents expect a friendly, direct tone with children, but keep the formal "usted" with adults. Switching between "tú" for the child and "usted" for the parent is normal and respectful.
    • Preventive recommendations land better with a specific date: "Le toca la vacuna contra la influenza este otoño" is more actionable than "necesita vacunas."
