Imaging and Lab Tests in Spanish

Ordering a test is easy; explaining it in Spanish is where most encounters stall. This page covers imaging and laboratory vocabulary — MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, blood work, and biopsies — along with the preparation and consent phrases that go with them.

    Using these terms with patients

    • Say the full term the first time — "la resonancia magnética", "la tomografía computarizada" — then use the short form patients use ("la resonancia", "el TAC").
    • MRI safety screening has two non-negotiable questions: metal in the body and claustrophobia. Ask both every time.
    • Give a timeframe for results ("Los resultados estarán listos en dos días") — its absence is the single most common complaint after imaging.
